Chaplaincy (pastoral, spiritual and religious care)
We work with patients, carers, families, friends and staff to care for the human spirit by providing a confidential listening ear and non-judgmental support.
We aim to provide an inclusive service for people of all faiths and beliefs, recognising each person as an individual and respecting their values, age, gender, disability, culture and sexual orientation.
We visit wards and departments, supporting patients, their families, carers and staff by providing:
- Pastoral, cultural, religious and spiritual support
- A confidential, non-judgmental “listening ear”
- A resource of advice and support to meet specific religious requests
- An educational resource for staff
- A 24-hour, 365-day urgent response to support patients and staff.
There’s normally a Chaplain around between 8am and 6pm and a Chaplain is usually on call at any time of the day or night – contact them via the Switchboard or ask staff on the ward.
We provide a pastoral care line for staff and patients, which you can phone or talk to us via text. It’s open from 9am – 5pm and outside those times you can leave a message and we’ll call you back. The number is 07736 287362.
More support is available during Covid, including Bereavement support and pairs of knitted hearts for patients and their loved ones – find out more. We also have an iPad to help patients keep in touch with their family and friends through virtual visiting and the virtual Chaplaincy service offering pastoral support via video calls. For more information, please email email@example.com.
Community and multi-faith links
We’ve links with community clergy and various faith tradition visitors and can contact a specific faith tradition leader to support you.
Race and Cultural Awareness Pack
We aim to care for our patients, their relatives and carers in a way which is sensitive to the particular considerations of their race, ethnicity, religion and culture. Our Race and Cultural Awareness Pack includes some health-related information on most of the major world faiths and some cultural groups.
If you’re a representative of any of these faiths and have feedback on the content, please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
